For many people, the eyes are one of the first features they notice about someone. It’s the eyes we focus on during a conversation and they can tell a lot about how a person is feeling at that very moment in time. However, because of this focus we have on the eyes, even the slightest sign of aging around the area can cause a person to appear much older. Sagging eyelids, wrinkles and puffy bags can add years to your appearance and may lead to others constantly asking if you’re sad or tired. Dr. Aylward can perform the popular eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, to correct these issues and restore a younger, revitalized look.
Deciding to Undergo Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty in Kansas City
Sagging or drooping of the upper eyelids is a common condition that occurs when skin begins losing elasticity due to factors such as aging and sun damage. For some people, this drooping can become so significant that it even causes some vision obstruction. Some may also develop puffiness or bags beneath the eyes, resulting from excess fat being pushed through the facial muscles.
Our surgical team performs both upper and lower eyelid surgery, although, not everyone will require both methods. If you are experiencing sagging of the upper eyelid without any issues beneath the eye, you may be able to achieve your desired results with just upper eyelid surgery in Kansas City. Lower eyelid surgery may be all you need if there are bags beneath your eyes, but your upper eyelids are not showing any real signs of aging. Those who are unhappy with the look of both their upper and lower eyelids can undergo the full eyelid surgery with our Truman team. During your consultation, Dr. Aylward will help you to make an informed decision and will provide you with recommendations aimed at achieving your goal look.
What eyelid surgery is NOT for:
Contrary to common belief, eyelid surgery will not help to correct problems such as crow’s feet. To reduce the appearance of these lines and wrinkles, you may consider a brow lift or Botox.
Your Eyelid Surgery Procedure
You and Dr. Aylward will decide whether you will be undergoing upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both. In order to correct drooping of the upper eyelid, our surgical team will make an incision along the natural folds of your eyelid, removing excess skin and fat to diminish sagging and achieve a tighter, younger look. Lower eyelid surgery will typically consist of removing excess fat through a discreet incision hidden beneath the lashes or from a hidden scar inside the lower lid.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
At first, you will likely experience some tightness and soreness of your eyelids. Because this surgery is performed so close to the eyes, one of the first questions many people ask is: when will I be able to read or watch TV again after my eyelid surgery in Kansas City? Most are able to comfortably read or watch their favorite shows after about 48 hours, and you should feel well enough to return to work within 7-10 days.
As with any surgical procedure, there will be some initial bruising and swelling as you heal. However, your eyes will gradually improve, looking younger and younger with each passing day. Patients continue to benefit from ongoing results for several years after their eyelid surgery.
